Santa Croce in Gerusalemme

The basilica of Santa Croce is one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome. The Roman Catholic basilica is situated at the foot of the Esquilino hill, in an area full of history.

The basilica was consecrated in IV century to house the relics of the Passion of the Lord. The Passion Relics was brought to the Eternal City from the Holy Land by Helena (mother of Constantine I).

 
Roman Ghetto

Roman  Ghetto was situated in the region Sant'Angelo ( Rome,Italy ). The roman ghetto is near to the Tiber river and the Theater of Marcellus.

In 1555 by Pope Paul IV was issued Papal bull - "Cum nimis absurdum", which segregated the Jews, who lived freely in Rome until that moment. Jews was isolated in a place, which was surrounded by three gates, locked at night. They had right to leave the area only during daytime. The Jews were limited to different restrictions on their personal freedoms - restrictions to allowed professions and obligatory Catholic sermons on the Jewish shabbat.

Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls

One of the greatest ancient basilicas of Rome is the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls. Other three churches considered to be the great antiques are St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Peter's.

The Roman Emperor Constantine I founded the basilica. The basilica is placed over the burial place of the Apostle, where after his death ( he was executed ), a memorial was built.

Basilica di San Clemente

The Basilica of Saint Clement (Basilica di San Clemente) in Rome, Italy is a 12th century Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to Pope Clement I.

It is a three - layer complex of buildings on the site. First was built 3rd century Mithraic Temple, next to it was built 4th century church. On the foundations of the 4th century Christian church was built the current one.
