Here are some interesting, curious and helpful facts about Rome, Italy. Did You Know, that... - Rome is the Capital of Italy and the largest city in the country. The population of The Eternal City is around 3 million.
- Rome is known as the "Eternal city" and also "Caput Mundi", which coming from Latin and meaning "capital of the world".
- At any time of day or night, one of the most crowded area in Rome is around the Trevi Fountain. Trevi is short for "tre vie" , which meaning "three streets". The streets, which converge on the small square containing one of Rome's most popular tourist attractions - Trevi Fountain. There is a custom of tossing a coin into the fountain. It is beleived, that those who toss a coin into the fountain, sooner or later, will return to Rome. Several thousands EURO € are thrown into the Trevi Fountain a day. The coins are collected at night and used for charity for needy citizens.
- When you are in Rome, you will see the letters S.P.Q.R. almost everywhere. SPQR is coming from a Latin phrase "Senatus Populusque Romanus" and means "The senate and the people of Rome". Тhese letters remind to whom Rome truly belongs - the people.
- А legend says, that the founders of Rome (brothers Romulus and Remus), were raised by a she-wolf in a cave on Palatine Hill.
